Busy Busy March |
March 2, 2012 |
Been busy time trying to finish all my custom projects before heading down to Wondercon (in Anaheim this year) with Five and Diamond, March 16-18 - if you headed that way, come find our booth and say hi!! After that headed on a 2 week road trip with my girl and a suitcase full of jewelry for Tawapa! It has been crunch time to get everything done.
First one I finished is for Toy Art Gallery's Bellicose Bunny Show happening at their new Melrose location on March 23rd. Normally Bellicose Bunny sits on his rocket but I cut him off and flipped him over to be a scared bunny, strapped to a rocket, shooting off to space. Full pix below.

My Version vs the Original

To the Moon

Next custom I just finished yesterday after painting for 2 14 hour days! Yipes! I now have a kink in my neck but I am super happy with the results so I don't care! Here is a teaser photo, more pix to come on Monday after I get some time this weekend (in between shifts at Five and Diamond) to do some photo shop work.
This is for the So So Happy x Toy2R collaboration where 30+ artists customized 8" Qees that will tour the US during 2012. The first show will be announced soon.

Will release more photos as I get them cleaned up... And then Monday to begin my custom for the Mega My Little Pony Show, have less than 2 weeks to get it all done and ready... Phew... Wish me luck! Until next time....

Let me start off with the most exciting news, I am honored and pleased to announce that I have been voted Plastic and Plush's 2011 Customizer of the Year! You can read about it here: http://plasticandplush.com/2012/02/2011-papas-customizer-of-the-year.html So unexpected and so sweet! Thanks Brian for the nod!
In other news have been working on lots of different customs for shows coming up this spring. WIP pictures soon to follow. Just finished a custom as a present for my friend, Spanky Stokes. He gave me 2 of his OMFG figures and told me to keep one and customize one - so I did and gave it back to him as a present. You can see the work below and read the article Spanky wrote about it here: http://www.spankystokes.com/2012/02/purple-people-eater-stroll-custom-by.html

Zombiemonkie heading to SDCC!!! |
July 20, 2011 |
| Heading down to San Diego for Comic Con 2011, Can't wait to see you all! You can find me Sunday from 11am-1pm at Dragatomi Booth #4935, where I will be doing my first ever signing! For the show I will have 2 colorways of my new resin figure "Chochinobake" available for sale. Yellow Chochinobake will be available Thurs - Sun as an, additionaly I will be releasing A brand new colorway on Sunday during my signing (see more info below)! Also at the Dragatomi Booth, check out Blamo's new toy release, Hug, created by Spencer Hansen and custom "drooled" by me. Hope to see you there! |
|
Originally seen at Toy Art Gallery's "Resin Show" Chochinobake is the second character in my ongoing "Yokaiju" line of hand made resin figures. Based on traditional Japanese folklore, Chochinobake or the "haunted paper lantern" features 2 articulated arms and a clear hair/fire piece that sits on top of the figure. As an added bonus each Chichinobake figure comes with a battery powered tea candle that sits inside the figure lighting the hair piece up from underneath! The traditional "Yellow edition" will be available Thursday through Sunday but as an added surprise I will also be releasing a SDCC exclusive "Mystery Colorway" during my signing/sketch session at Dragatomi (Sun 11-1) . Limited to only 5, this super secret, super spooky figure will only be for sale on SUNDAY July 24th.
Designed, sculpted, and hand painted by me, Chochinobake was graciously molded and poured by Motorbot of Deadbear Studios. Each colorway comes in its own Kaiju style bag/header that includes an 8X10 mini print/bio story for the character. All this hand made goodness for only $60!
See you at Con!! |
Welcome to my new website!! |
July 19. 2011 |
Hello and welcome to the very first posting on the blog/news section of my ALL NEW website!
If you have found your way here you probably know who I am, or at least have seen my work. But for the uninitiated here’s the low down:
My name is Mikie Graham but I also go by the name Zombiemonkie, I’m an avid toy collector and customizer. I’ve been making my own custom figures for over 10 years now and have been working on resin casting for just over a year.
This website represents the entirety of my 3D toy art. Everything I have ever worked on is represented here in some form. From my earliest customs, 4 batman T.A.S. action figures I made over 10 years ago, to my newest vinyl and resin monstrosities.
What you see before you is the earliest incarnation of steadily evolving website. Make sure to check back to this page on a regular basis as this is the place I will be announcing all of my upcoming projects, shows, figures and anything else I think might interest you my reader.
Thank you so much for checking out my work, and I hope you like what you see.
